Our Italy
We each began a love affair with Italy after our first visits. Italy is bursting with flavors: architechture, art, history, countryside, the sea, culture, the food and of course the people. This year we were blessed to be able to travel and paint  around the country for three months.
The Mediterranean light  brings warmth to the colors, the shadows, and everying it touches.  While embraced with all the flavors, It is enticing  to try to savor the moment and translate that warmth to paper with brush and paint to share with others.
We hope you enjoy moments from our Italian experience.

* Mary Lynn Perney Ward is an artist working primarily in watercolor. Her paintings are glympses into the adventures of her life.  Two of her passions are travel & painting. She observes with her senses & camera:  the light, the color, the texture, & the story.  When she paints, plein-air or in studio, she wants her paintings to share with you moments she experienced on her lifelong journey.  She has traveled to Europe nearly every spring since 2011.
Thanks to the pandemic, Mary Lynn recaptured her passion for painting with a vengeance, after a 10 year hiatus from painting.  Drawing & painting since a teen, she is primarily self-taught, honing her skills at workshops with painters she admires.
Born in Cleveland, OH she grew up in Aurora.  Her degrees in Education are from Hiram College, Colorado State, & Virginia Tech.
Considering herself somewhat of a bohemian, she has gone where her life has taken her.  Eleven years were devoted to a career in youth development with the Dept. of Agriculture in CO & VA, including a professional exchange to Brazil.
She then spent 12 years drawing & painting fulltime, traveling the East coast exhibiting her work in numerous shows  & galleries.  Like a tumbleweed, she lived in various locations & landed in PA.
Since 1997, she has had a career as a Tax Professional & Educator, with painting a sideline. Then she pursued another passion, Ballroom & Tango dancing. She taught dance & hosted dances weekly for 15 years until  2020.
She is delighted to share with you her  experiences through her art, as she is truely happy when she is painting.

* William J. Ward is an emerging artist who took up art late in life.  He took his first painting & drawing class four years ago & has embraced his passion zealously, sometimes taking as many as 4 art classes a week on zoom during the pandemic.
Bill is exploring various mediums and styles including watercolor, acrylic, and classical drawing.  He has been developing his skills at both plein-air & studio workshops in the US and Italy. His paintings have fresh colors & somethimes have fun characters in the scenes.
Born in 1933, he grew up in Philadelphia, served in the army in France in the 50's, and has lived in CA, NJ, & PA.  A graduate of Drexel, he worked as an accountant for a private bank for many years, retiring in 1968. He raised 3 sons & has 6 grandchildren. Sadly widowed after 43 years, he began traveling & took up ballroom dancing. In this newest chapter of life, Bill is now married to his dance teacher, & fellow artist & travel partner.  Together, they have been traveling to Europe nearly every spring, including for painting.
He hopes that everyone will enjoy his art as much as he is enjoying creating it.
