Tonight’s topic is Futurism - one of the great 20th century avant-garde movements - celebrating the dynamism and energy of a new industrialized and mechanized world full of speed, electricity and relentless movement through bustling cities. We'll consider Futurism as an art movement, a literary style, a philosophy, and an aesthetic proposal for the future through well-known paintings and sculpture but also poetry, performance, music, design and architecture. We will also reflect on the movement's glorification of the creative fragmentation of both humans and machines into a tumultuous riot of form, presaging the world war about to erupt and the totalitarian forces on the horizon.
