Grants from MAECI (Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation)

for K-12 Programs of Italian

As part of its mission to promote Italian culture and language, the America-Italy Society of Philadelphia acts as Ente Promotore of grants from Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation (MAECI) to public and private schools that offer Italian language instruction. Under the supervision of the Consulate General of Italy in Philadelphia, AISPhila promotes Italian language programs by offering:

  • Grants to support a teacher's salary (grades K-10) up to $8,000, and not more than 50% of total salary;
  • Free Continuous Education Courses to support teachers of Italian K-12; inquire for program and dates;
  • Fellowship for teachers for College Board course "Training AP teachers"
  • Free materials (books, DVD) for teachers and classes;
  • Awards for K-12 students of Italian;
  • Free AP course for students whose school do not offer it;
  • Educational activities and events to enhance Italian language education and enrich student knowledge of Italian culture
Since 2007, AIS has acted as ente gestore in a seven-state area comprising Pennsylvania, Delaware, Maryland (with the exclusion of Anne Arundel, Howard, Prince George, Montgomery counties), Virginia (with the exclusion of Fairfax, Arlington, and Prince William Counties), West Virginia, North Carolina, and southern counties of New Jersey (Atlantic, Burlington, Camden, Cape May, Cumberland, Gloucester, Ocean and Salem). Remaining New Jersey counties are under the jurisdiction of the Consulate General in New York.
School administrators, world language coordinators and teachers of Italian are encouraged to learn more about support for strengthening instruction of Italian language and culture in grades K-12.
