About the exhibition: Modigliani Up Close explores Amedeo Modigliani’s working methods and materials. Building on research that began in 2017, this focused project takes a close look at how Modigliani created his works. New scholarship by specialists across Europe and the Americas informs a detailed investigation of the artist’s unique style, casting new light on his practice, in an exhibition that brings together important pieces from museum collections. The exhibition is organized by a team of curators and conservators: Nancy Ireson and Barbara Buckley from the Barnes, consultant curator Simonetta Fraquelli, and conservator Annette King of Tate, London.

Joe Caliva became a Docent at The Barnes Foundation three years ago and is thrilled to have this opportunity for teaching and sharing his passion for the arts.  He is a graduate of the University of the Arts in Philadelphia with a Master's Degree in Music Education.  A multi-disciplinary artist, his portfolio includes drawing, painting, photography, graphic design, and theater production.  Joe also enjoys studying languages, philosophy, and science.
