The 2022 lecture series on Venice will continue our exploration into the future and the past of this very special city.  Our first talk will focus on contemporary Venice. We will hear directly from a Venetian, Jane da Mosto, an environmental scientist and activist who co-founded the non-profit, We Are Here Venice, to develop a path for a sustainable future for the lagoon and the city.

Thursday, the 10th of February, 2pm, on Zoom.

“We Are Here Venice:
How to Build a Sustainable Future”

By Jane Da Mosto

RSVP
We are Here Venice was established in 2015 to advocate for evidence-based approaches to policy making.  As a co-founder and Executive Director, Jane’s mission is to change the future of the city by emphasizing the need to protect the lagoon and build a resilient resident population.  In this talk, Jane will present current thinking about Venice and describe some of the projects she hopes will strengthen the future of Venice and the entire lagoon.

Jane da Mosto (MA University of Oxford, MPhil Imperial College London) is an environmental scientist and activist based in Venice. Jane’s books include The Science of Saving Venice (Umberto Allemandi, 2004), The Venice Report (Cambridge University Press, 2010) and Acqua in Piazza (Linea d’acqua 2016). Publications include “Practicing Civic Ecology: Venice and the Lagoon” in Care and Repair (MIT Press, Angelika Fitz et al, 2019), “The Venice Paradox” in Aroop special edition on Failure (Raza Foundation, 2020).  In 2017 she was honored with the Osella d’Oro by the city of Venice and in 2021 she received the Fondazione Masi prize for “vision and courage”.
We are Here Venice is funded by donations.
