The image that most people have of Italy – endless vineyards and olive groves, rolling green hills, rows of cypress trees, immaculate stone farmhouses – is Tuscany.
And Tuscany’s wines - Brunello, Chianti Classico, Vino Nobile di Montepulciano – are just as famous as these scenes. But the popularity of Tuscan wines means that the market is flooded and the good Tuscan wines – the real Tuscan wines – are both rare and hard to find. In this class, we’ll take a tour of Italy’s most popular tourist destination, but with a fresh perspective that will both introduce you to wonderful new wines and teach you how to find these rare gems among the endless selection of mediocre Tuscan wines at your local wine shop.
The class is led by Steve Decina, a Level 3 Sommelier, Italian Wine Specialist, and Certified Wine Instructor. He works at the University of Pennsylvania and also runs a small tourism business that brings people to Italy to experience wines made by artisan winemakers using traditional methods and native grapes.
