AIS-Phila

Sicily is a land of strong character and deep history. Every step on the island reflects centuries of cultures and traditions. Both shaped by conquest and fiercely independent, Sicily tells its story through its wines. Above it all stands Mount Etna, home to one of the world’s most exciting wine regions.

In this class, we will explore Sicily through seven wines, from sparkling to dessert. We’ll learn what makes Sicilian wine so special, from Etna—often called Southern Italy’s answer to Burgundy—to Vittoria and the rugged western part of the island. If you love Italian wine and food, feel a connection to Sicily, or simply love Italy, this class is for you.

The class is led by Steve Decina, a Level 3 Sommelier, Italian Wine Specialist, and Certified Wine Instructor with the National Wine School. He works at the University of Pennsylvania and also runs a small tourism business that brings people to Italy to experience wines made by artisan winemakers using traditional methods and native grapes.
