Roma Caput Mundi – Rome is the capital of the world. While this fact has made Rome one of the world’s premier tourist destinations, it has been disastrous for its winemakers.

Long forced to grow French grapes to meet the demand of international tourists, modern Roman winemakers in the region of Lazio have spent the last few decades rediscovering the incredible diversity and deliciousness of their native wines. In this class, you’ll drink exceptional and beautiful wines, from Cesanese – Rome’s Pinot Noir – to the incredibly rare Maturano and Bellone, and learn how you can explore this wine region just a stonesthrow from the Colosseum on your next trip to Rome.

The class is led by Steve Decina, a Level 3 Sommelier, Italian Wine Specialist, and Certified Wine Instructor with the National Wine School. He works at the University of Pennsylvania and also runs a small tourism business that brings people to Italy to experience wines made by artisan winemakers using traditional methods and native grapes.
