Born in Bergamo, Italy, Rovaris trained at the Milan Conservatory and has conducted at some of the world's most renowned opera houses, including La Scala, the Metropolitan Opera Orchestra, and Deutsche Oper Berlin.
A champion of innovation in opera, he helped launch Opera Philadelphia's Festival O and was named a Knight of the Order of Merit of the Italian Republic in 2015.
