Italian Language & Culture Grants
To: School Administrators, World Language Coordinators, Teachers of Italian
From: Franca Ricardi, Responsabile Esecutivo Ente Gestore
Thanks to funds provided by the Italian Foreign Affairs Department in Rome, the America-Italy Society of Philadelphia is looking to strengthen your efforts to teach Italian language and culture to students in grades K-10. This is an excellent opportunity for your school to start or enhance an Italian language program.
In order to foster the diffusion of the Italian language and culture, a limited number of 12-month grants will be awarded to programs established according to guidelines provided in the World Language Curriculum framework of each state.
The funds (up to $10,000) can be used to start a new curricular Italian program. Schools that already enroll a significant number of students taking Italian are also encouraged to apply for the 2019 grant cycle.
The grant will cover up to 50% of the salary costs of a certified Italian teacher (not exceeding $10,000), with the expectation that the program will become self-sustaining within a period of three years, unless the initial program has expanded to include new courses.
Students and teachers at schools receiving the grant will have opportunities to participate in student exchange and summer programs in Italy. Teachers at participating schools may attend a free professional development workshop organized by local Universities with Italian and U.S. educational institutions. The workshop qualifies for Act 48 credit.
Schools receiving the grant are required to:
