ITALIAN FOR BUSINESS- L’italiano per affari

Monday, 5:30 – 7:00 p.m. In Italian at the Intermediate level.

Program: This course will teach you what you need to know by using authentic business situations and genuine problems encountered in Italian companies.

Ogni unita’ propone una visione dell’argomento trattato secondo diverse prospettive: il linguaggio specifico e tecnico; la grammatica; la corrispondenza e modulistica; riferimenti alla cultura aziendale italiana ed europea. Each unit offers a multi-perspective view of the subjects studied: specific and technical language; grammar; forms and correspondence; overview of Italian and EU business culture and practices.

PRIMO MODULO / FIRST MODULE- SUMMER 2010

  1. Offerta di impiego: linguaggio e struttura dell’offerta di lavoro; metodi e canali di ricerca.- Job posting: language and structure of job offers; searching methods and channels.
  2. Domanda di impiego: linguaggio e struttura della domanda di lavoro; metodiche di selezione del  personale.-  Job application: language and structure of job applications; recruiting techniques.
  3. Curriculum Vitae: struttura ed efficacia di CV e lettera di accompagnamento; comparazione con modello USA.- Resume: structure and effectiveness of resume and cover letter; comparison with USA models and formats.
  4. Referenze: come e quando fornire referenze; cenni alla legge sulla privacy.-References: how and when to supply with references; overview of the Italian Law concerning privacy and personal data treatment.
  5. Colloquio di selezione: condurre o sostenere un colloquio di selezione, descrivere formazione, istruzione e competenze, obbiettivi.-  Job Interview: how to handle or undergo a job interview; how to describe professional experience, education, competencies, goals.

SECONDO MODULO / SECONDO MODULO- FALL 2010

  1. Il contatto interpersonale d’affari: presa di contatto formale ed informale; presentarsi e presentare alter persone- Business and relationship: formal and informal  business approach; how to introduce yourself and other people.
  2. Appuntamenti e riunioni d’affari: come gestire appuntamenti e riunioni dal contatto alla pianificazione e conduzione.- Business appointments and meetings: how to manage a business meeting or appointment from top to bottom.
  3. Prenotazioni e logistica: come organizzare un meeting dal punto di vista pratico: prenotazioni, telefonate,                                                  spostamenti, comunicazione.-Meetings logistics: how to organize a business meeting from the practical point of view: venues, scheduling, booking, transportation, communication, etc.
  4. Presentazione commerciale ed aziendale: condurre una presentazione aziendale e di prodotto; descrivere i diversi aspetti e settori dell’azienda; descrivere la propria funzione; presentare il proprio prodotto. -Company and products presentation: how to introduce and describe your company and your product; company structure, characteristics, functions, revenue: your profile and your role in the company; your product and its features.
  5. Corrispondenza commerciale ed aziendal: esempi di corrispondenza e modulistica specifica; le forme di comunicazione aziendale. – Business correspondence and forms: examples of specific correspondence and forms; overview of commercial and company means of communication.

Case studies will illustrate concepts and you’ll have the opportunity to practice skills in small groups and role plays; if you have your own business or if you are going to start it, this is the very course for you!
